Oaks on the River Hotel

Amazing views of the river and dock from our room on the 3rd floor, restaurant, bar and pool. We could see the shrimp boats coming in and out which was a fun experience. The balcony was lovely with chairs and a table, perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning. We enjoyed the restaurant for breakfast with kind and attentive staff. I had the breakfast sandwich which was delicious and HUGE! The grits were also so, so good- and I have high standards for grits. We went to the bar for happy hour. They offer drink and food specials from 4-6pm. I was expecting a cheap whiskey and a sour mix for my $5 drink but the bar tender made an authentic whiskey sour with Jack Daniels, complete with the egg white. Again, the staff were friendly and attentive. Check in and check out were quick and painless and the gift shop was cute. The room was lovely and well appointed. Overall quiet, I couldn’t hear the neighbors next door. Bed was comfortable and there was a kind handwritten card from the staff on the bed- a very nice touch along with turndown service. The bathroom had plenty of towels and good quality hand soaps, lotions, shampoo/conditioner etc. They smelled nice but were heavily scented. The athletic center was quite large well supplied for a hotel that size. The pool was clean with a comfortable pool deck with plenty of chairs and tables. It’s easily walkable to other restaurants, downtown, waterfront and the wine bar- definitely recommend Waterfront Wine and Gourmet and Skippers Fish Camp.
Overall, I would happily stay again and likely will.
