A classic lunch counter in the heart of DC! Right across the street from the U street metro station on the yellow/green line. Fast, friendly service. Counter order and then seat yourself. The meal combo deal is an extra $5 for a fountain drink and fries. I recommend skipping it because it’s not quite worth it. Spend the money on a milkshake instead! The walls are filled with pictures famous people who have eaten there. This place is great! Definitely check it out.
It’s an iconic DC establishment so I think everyone should go at least once. With that said, I think the chili dogs are ok but not amazing. The service I got was a bit cold, but I did see Ms. Virginia going around talking to customers which I though was very nice.
This was our very first dinner selection on our vacation and we were not disappointed! We even grabbed an extra order to go because it was just that good. I had the Big Ben burger. Scrumptious! My husband had the Chili Sub and he loved it. Their famous banana pudding is good as well. We took two of those home. If you’re looking for a local staple where you can enjoy good food, you’ve found it!
Had to hit up this DC institution. We got the iconic half smokes with chili and cheese and the chili cheese fries. Be prepared for a messy but delicious meal. Treat yourself to the milkshakes. Staff is super friendly. Check out the photos adorning the walls before heading out. Chili Dog, Half Smoke
