Ok, I was actually in Sevilla last year. They don’t play Gypsy Kings and they don’t have discos downstairs there but this place comes very close to summoning up the Espagne spirit in the heart of the Gaslamp. A welcome respite from the cookie cutter Italian fare you find on every street corner here. The decor is crazy interesting, lots to look at on the walls, ceiling and perched on barstools.
The upstairs dining room seems destined for tourists, groups and rejects so try to get seated on the main floor in the midst if the “scene”. The bar was especially lively with flirtatious bartenders offering cougars and hipsters alike a free sip of something out of a weird spout like container.
The food was good for Spanish newbies, seasoned Spanish palettes may fid it somewhat lacking. The sangria, always the benchmark of this cuisine, was excellent. Don’t miss it by the glass or the pitcher. The traditional palella was over salted but laden with interesting seafood, chicken and sausages. Dessert included a flan with a chocolatey flavor that caused a fork fight.
In all, a fun night out in Spain without the flight.
