Came in for dinner on Thursday. It was decently busy but I was able to be seated with no wait. First the good: the America cut pork is fantastic. I don’t know what witchery is performed in the kitchen, but it came out equal parts red/white meat with no dryness. The garlic sauce with mushrooms gave me that classic American comfort feeling you expect from a place like this.
Now the bad: they serve “sides” before the main course. You pick two out of three: warm apples, cottage cheese, and coleslaw. The correct answer is none of the above. It’s a gluttonous amount of food that does nobody any good. Don’t eat it unless you ran a marathon today.
And the mediocre: the store was frankly boring. The Cracker Barrel waiting room might be tacky, but at least it’s well stocked and worth a laugh. Not so at the shed.
If you haven’t had Iowa quality pork, you can do much worse than this.
